I boat and I vote – BIAA industry policy platform

I Fish, I Boat, I Vote is a new campaign for the fishing and boating sector, highlighting the role that recreational fishing and boating plays in our everyday lives and the importance of the sector to the Australian economy and social well-being of our country.  As a joint BIAA and Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF) initiative, the objective of I Fish, I Boat, and I Vote is to make sure our politicians and the broader community understand the role that fishing and boating plays in our everyday lives and the positive economic, social and environmental benefits fishing and boating brings to all Australians.

Changes in government policies over the last few years, along with global economic conditions, have put pressure on the ability of everyday Australians to get out on the water to enjoy their fishing and boating.   A call is being made to politicians of all parties to demonstrate their support for those who enjoy the fishing and boating lifestyle as part of the Australian way of life.

With the Australian Federal Election likely to be held in September, BIAA, as the national voice for the boating industry and community across Australia, is raising the profile of the boating sector to ensure relevant, appropriate and meaningful recognition of the sector within political discussion and to ensure accommodation within future government industry support programmes of initiatives to grow and sustain the boating industry.

The weeks leading up to the election will be vital in presenting this profile and ensuring the sector’s messages are heard and drawn into actions within party manifesto.

Our challenge and opportunity is to mobile the political power and influence of the one million boat licence holders and the five million people who annually enjoy the boating lifestyle.
